General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
Attendance Line: 403-777-6910 ext. 1
It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the attendance line.
Illness
If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be expected to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.
Allergies
We have children at our school who are allergic to many different things. The specifics and the severity are different for each child. At Altadore School we are an “Allergy Aware” school. Parents are asked to indicate health concerns on the school registration for their child and are encouraged to ensure classroom teachers are also aware of these concerns. We will post allergy signs outside of each classroom indicating what allergies have been identified for the students in that room. We also encourage parents of children with severe allergies to educate them in making responsible decisions about how to manage these allergies. Students are asked not to share lunches and treats. Children with life-threatening food allergies are encouraged to leave a small supply of “safe” treats with a teacher for those times when an outside treat is brought into the classroom.
Due to the severity of nut/peanut allergies and the number of students who have them, we do ask that families refrain from sending food items containing nuts/peanuts to school.
Injury
The safety of all children is extremely important to us! Safety rules and consistent expectations help us to ensure the well-being of students, staff and visitors. All of our staff members have First Aid training. Minor injuries will be dealt with at school and parents will be informed of any incident either by a phone call or email. If a more serious injury occurs, parents will be contacted immediately and appropriate actions will be implemented.
Health Concerns
Please inform the school in writing of any special health concerns regarding your child/children. This is most important in case of allergies and when students are unable to participate in physical activities. Where prescription medication is to be administered by school staff, this CBE form must be completed. Forms are also available at the school office.
Medical information is completed at the beginning of each school year. If your child’s medical condition changes during the year, please update their information at the office and with your child’s teacher. If your child has an Epi-pen or an asthma puffer, we need to be informed.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
