Our Philosophy

Altadore School is focused on bringing the entire school community together to help each and every one of our students succeed – in academics, citizenship, character and personal development. We believe in ongoing formative assessment to determine the individual strengths and learning needs of our students. We then combine this information with strong instructional practices in order to design learning tasks that are active and intellectually engaging for our students.  Learning is personalized so that all students can participate, progress and achieve. Applying learning and building connections between the classroom, local and global communities is emphasized. A well-rounded program including daily physical education and a focus on the fine arts is supplemented by off-site excursions, artist in residency programs, and a variety of extracurricular activities.

School Mission

Our purpose is to work together with the entire school community to create the best possible learning as mandated by the Alberta Curriculum.

School Vision: Unity in Community

Altadore School strives to be a cooperative learning community which fosters responsible, autonomous learners within a responsive, diverse quality learning environment.

Altadore's Edible Garden

Altadore School is fortunate to have an amazing Edible Garden!  Staying true to our approach of "Unity in Community", the Edible Garden is a true partnership with community members.  Our students enjoy looking after their class beds, and benefit from participating in the entire process of gardening:  preparing beds, planting, pruning and maintaining, harvesting, and getting the beds ready for winter.  Staff and students look forward to their special times in the garden throughout the entire year.

Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a Truth and Reconciliation Commitment to Action, on June 21, we renewed our commitment.

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
