All parents and visitors are required to sign in at the office and are asked to wear a visitor/volunteer badge while in the school during the school day, even if in the building for only a few minutes.
Supervision
There is limited supervision outside in the mornings beginning at 8:15 during soft entry. Parents are asked to not bring their children to school before this time.
Supervision is not provided after school. In the interest of safety, all children who are not supervised are reminded to leave the playground when dismissed and check in at home.
Picking Up Your Child
Parents must call the office to sign out their child. When you arrive, we will call your child from their classroom to come to the office and meet you. Please allow a few minutes for your child to get to the office. In the interest of safety, children are not to wait alone outside. Please remind your children to go to the office if you are not available to pick them up immediately after school.
It is very important that we are aware of any custody agreements that may dictate who has legal access to your child.
Each class has an assigned door in which to enter and exit the school. You will learn which door is your child's the day before school begins.
Locked Doors and School Security
The outside doors to Altadore School are locked while children are in school; this keeps the school safe and encourages visitors to the school to check in at the main office. If children arrive late, they must enter at the front door and check in at the office.
All parents and visitors are required to sign in at the office and are asked to wear a visitor/volunteer badge while in the school during the school day. Please be aware that all adults who are working with children in the school are required to complete a police security screening.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act section 4. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
