Altadore School Bi-Weekly Update April 13-26, 2026

Admin Message

Oki Hello Altadore Parents and Guardians,

CBE Trustee Susan Vukadinovic and Area 6 Director Michelle Howell will be attending our next Parent Council meeting on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in person or online. The Altadore Student Leadership Council will provide a brief address to Parent Council, followed by a Q&A period.

Our Grade 6 Orff the Wall students will perform on Monday, April 13, at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and talent.

Our school-wide Green Fool Theatre residency will conclude this week with a short sharing assembly on Friday, April 10.

We were disappointed that the Grade 2 field trip to Butterfield Acres was canceled due to weather conditions. We are currently exploring rescheduling options and will share updates as they become available.

In the classroom, Ms. Almadi’s Grade 4 class has begun learning French words of the week and will soon complete their Social Studies unit on the Underground Railroad before moving on to study the North-West Mounted Police and their trek west in 1874.

Ms. Andrew’s Grade 3 class continues to develop their understanding of dialogue and the use of quotation marks. Students have also begun exploring text features of non-fiction books, including keywords, glossaries, indexes, and captions. Next week, they will continue their story writing, with a deeper focus on developing strong middles and endings.

We have exceeded our $1,500 goal for Jump Rope for Heart and are currently at $3,750 in donations—well done, Altadore School! Donations remain open until April 21. Thank you to our families for your generosity and for supporting this initiative.

Thank you for your continued support.

Take care,

School Council Volunteer Opportunities

We’re still looking for a volunteer to step into the role of Garden Committee Chair! This position helps lead the care and upkeep of the Owl’s Nest and Edible Garden - no prior gardening experience is needed. It’s a wonderful way to connect with other parents, support hands-on learning opportunities for our kids, and build community at Altadore and beyond.

We will also be looking for a School Council Treasurer starting in July. This role typically involves managing the council’s finances, tracking expenses, helping with budgeting, and providing simple financial updates at meetings - no accounting background required, just organization and a willingness to help.

If you’re interested in either role or would like to learn more, please reach out to altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com. We’d love to have you involved!

Appropriate Outdoor Footwear

Students are required to wear appropriate footwear for recess. Crocs, slides, and slippers are a safety concern when running and playing at recess.

  • Wednesday, April 22 - Subway (deadline has passed)
