Oki Hello Altadore Parents and Guardians,

Here we are in the last week of June. There are so many events happening this week. A special thank you to Altadore teachers for taking the time to create lasting memories with each event. Please take a moment to say thank you to our amazing teachers.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is honoured annually on June 21, near the summer solstice. It is a time for Canadians to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.

The Calgary Board of Education acknowledges the significance of this day and remains committed to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action through meaningful learning connected to Indigenous knowledge systems, languages, and histories.

Altadore School celebrated this day with an assembly where students participated in Acknowledging the Land, the offering of tobacco, and an address and song offered by TsuuT’ina Knowledge Keeper Hal Eagle Tail.

In the afternoon, students participated in learning stations focused on drumming, storytelling, land-based learning, art, and traditional Blackfoot games.

Students agreed it was a great day of learning.

Take care,

Altadore Kindergarten families are warmly invited to join us for a special gathering in the Owl’s Nest on Monday, June 22, at 10:30 AM (Mrs. Jackson’s class) or 2:15 PM (Mrs. Lenz’s class). Please feel free to bring a blanket and a snack to share. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Summer Splash- Monday, June 22

Summer Splash will take place from 5:00 PM - 7: 00 PM.

This fun, casual event is a great way to kick off the summer!

  • There will be a “wet zone” for water fights and a “dry zone” for families who prefer to picnic and visit without getting wet.
  • Food trucks will be available, or families are welcome to bring their own picnics.
  • Food Trucks this year will include: Neon Taco, Pizza No.1, and Cookie Dough Stand. Please be aware that line ups can get long.
  • Summer Splash will take place rain or shine with the exception of thunder and lightning storms when it will be cancelled and not rescheduled.

We hope to see all our families there for an evening of summer fun and thank you in advance to the parent volunteers to help make this event a success!

Grade 6 Farewell - Tuesday June 23

We are happy to invite our Grade 6 families to our Farewell Celebration on Tuesday June 23 at 11:00 AM in the school gymnasium.

Immediately following the ceremony, the Grade 6 Farewell parent committee will host a celebration for Grade 6 students and their families in the gym from approximately 12:00–1:00PM, where treats and beverages will be served.

We look forward to celebrating this special occasion together and recognizing all that our Grade 6 students have accomplished during their time at Altador.

Lost and Found

Lost and found will be on display in the main hallway until Wednesday, June 24 until 1:15 PM.

Classes will have an opportunity to look through the items. Anything not picked up will be donated to a local charity.

Sports Day - Wednesday, June 24

Sports Day will run from 12:35 - 3:00 PM.

Students will enjoy a variety of fun activity stations, including soccer dribbling, baseball angry birds, tennis forehand/back hand, football obstacle relay race, Ga Ga Pit, and so many more.

  • We will end the day with a freezie treat for all students.

Thank you to the Parent Council for the treat. Kindergarten morning students are welcome to attend with a parent or caregiver.

Ride your bike to school - Wednesday, June 24

Students are encouraged to ride their bikes to school on Wednesday, June 24. Please remember to wear a helmet, ride safely, and lock bikes securely at the bike racks when arriving at school.

Cereal Box Dominoes - Thursday, June 25

The Altadore Student Leadership Council and Pride Vibe Club are excited to host a Cereal Box Dominoes event on Thursday, June 25!

Families are invited to donate boxes of cereal so students can build the largest Altadore cereal box domino chain. Weather permitting, the dominoes will wind across the compound; otherwise, the event will take place indoors.

Students may bring donations to their classrooms. After the event, all cereal boxes will be donated to the Calgary Food Bank to support families in our community.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

Altadore Talent Show - Friday, June 26

The talent show is taking place on Friday, June 26. With two performances for staff and students. Due to limited space, we are unable to invite parents and guardians to attend this event. We appreciate your understanding.

Last Day of School, Beach Day & Grade 6 Clap Out - Friday, June 26

The final day of school is a half-day with early dismissal at 12:45 PM.

  • We wish to celebrate by having all students dress for the beach.
  • Our Grade 6 students will be recognized with a special final clap-out by the entire student body as they exit the building one last time.
  • Parents can meet them at the Grade 3/5 doors at dismissal.

Report Cards

Families can view, download, or print report cards for kindergarten to Grade 6 students starting Thursday, June 25, 2026 through MyCBE.

Within MyCBE, families can also view student information, pay fees and book conferences. Report cards show student grades, teacher comments and attendance information.

Do not forget to print your child’s report card if you want a copy for future reference.

Staffing Changes

Each year, just as we say farewell to our Grade 6 students and many other families as they move on to new schools, we also know that some of our staff are leaving us, and that we will be welcoming new people to Altadore School. The staffing process within the CBE is ongoing and will remain in high gear over the summer. There could be further changes, but we would like to share the following information with you:

  • Ms. Nara Duthie, Grade 1 teacher, has accepted a position at Fish Creek School
  • Ms. Amy Normanm Grade 5 teacher, has accepted a position at West Ridge School
  • Ms. Natalie Gruback, Grade 2 teacher, has accepted a position at Elbow Park School
  • Ms. Abigail Ollban, Lunchroom Supervisor, has accepted a position with a before and after school care company.

We’d like to wish Nara, Amy, Natalie, and Abigail the best in their next career journey.

  • Ms. Erin Carpenter has moved from a part-time teacher to a full-time member of our teaching staff and we welcome her in her increased role.
  • Mrs. Brianna Miller has been offered a continuous contract with the CBE and we welcome Mrs. Miller to Altadore School.
  • We would like to welcome Ms. Corrie Gosse to the Altadore School team. Ms. Gosse brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for early literacy and is committed to inquiry-based learning, as it encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and student ownership in their learning.
  • Ms Ali Vejprava will continue her maternity leave. We welcome Mr. Michael Herchek in a temporary teaching position in 2026/27.

More staffing updates will be provided as they become available.
