Oki Hello Altadore Parents and Guardians,
Here we are on the last days of May, it's hard to believe how quickly the time has passed.
Thank you to all who attended our Parent Council meeting this past week. The Loose Parts learning presentation and hands-on activity were a tremendous success with our parent community. A special thank you to Julie Ramsay and Veronica Ibanez from the Creative ReUse Calgary Project for taking the time to share the many meaningful ways students learn through the use of upcycled materials. We encourage you to ask your child about their experiences with loose parts learning and what they have discovered through these engaging opportunities in the classroom. If you want to learn more about the Creative Reuse Project, Julie and Veronica would like to invite you to their family day event on May 31 at the ReImagine Centre.
As we move into the final week of May and prepare for June, our calendar remains filled with exciting activities and events. Alongside these experiences, students continue to be deeply engaged in their learning. School-wide assessments are underway. Our goal is to maintain a positive focus on learning while supporting students in demonstrating their growth and achievements throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We hope you enjoy the week ahead. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the remainder of the school year.
Take care,
Iikiinayookaa M. Yellow Horn Karlee Zelmer

Drop Off and Pickup Parking
This is a friendly reminder that staff parking at Altadore School is very limited. Many staff members rely on street parking along 45 Avenue and the south side of the school field. If you are able to walk your child to and from school, it would help keep nearby parking spaces available for staff and support the smooth operation of our school day. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and support.
Bikes and Scooters
Bike and scooter season has arrived! Please remind your child(ren) that bike and scooter racks are available for their use at school. Students should bring a lock to securely store their bike or scooter during the day.
For the safety of all students, biking and riding scooters on school property is not permitted during school hours. Students are expected to dismount and walk their bike or scooter once they enter school grounds.Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.
Altadore Talent Show
We will be hosting the “Altadore Talent Show” on Friday, June 26.
- Grade 1-6 students are invited to audition to participate in the talent show. Auditions will be held during the week of June 8-12 in your students' music class.
- lease let your child know not to audition if you know that you will be away on Friday, June 26.
The Talent Show is for our students to enjoy together and unfortunately, we cannot accommodate a parent audience, due to fire code.
Pride Vibes Club
The PRIDE VIBES CLUB at Altadore School provides a safe and inclusive space where 2SLGBTQ+ students and student allies can be themselves and have fun. The student-led, teacher-supervised club meets on Wednesday morning at 8am in Ms. Mackenzie’s room. (Room 1)
Further information about the role of GSAs (Gay-Straight Alliances) can be found on the Alberta Education website at Health and Safety in Schools - GSAs If you would like to learn more about the club, please contact Ms. Mackenzie or Ms. Andrews.
Garden Committee Information Session (May 25)
The Garden Committee is hosting an info session on Monday, May 25 from 7:00–8:00 PM for anyone interested in helping out with the garden. It will be hosted in the garden.
This will be a chance to learn more about the garden, the impact it has on our children, and the different volunteer opportunities available.
We are still really in need of additional support, so if you have any interest in helping out — even in a small way — we would greatly appreciate it. We would love to have you involved!
Parent Council Meeting (June 10, 6:30 PM)
Join Us at Our Final Parent Council Meeting of the School Year!
Altadore community parents and guardians are invited to attend our upcoming Parent Council meeting. Come connect with other families, stay up to date on what’s happening at the school, and help support a welcoming and positive school community for our students.
As this will be our last meeting of the school year, we also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents, guardians, staff, and volunteers for yoursupport, involvement, and contributions throughout the year — it truly makes a difference in our school community.
- June 10 at 6:30 PM (in person and online options available) and childcare will be available for all school aged children.
School Council Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for a way to get involved at Altadore School and help support our amazing community? We are currently seeking volunteers for two important School Council roles and would love to hear from interested parents/guardians!
We are still looking for a Garden Committee Chair to help oversee the Owl’s Nest and Edible Garden. No gardening experience is needed—just an interest in supporting outdoor learning opportunities for students and connecting with other families in our school community.
We are also looking for a School Council Treasurer beginning in July. This role includes helping manage council finances, assisting with budgeting, and providing simple financial updates at meetings. No formal accounting background is required.
These are wonderful opportunities to meet other parents, contribute to the school in a meaningful way, and help strengthen the Altadore community. If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering, please email altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com.

Notes of Thanks
Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school...
- Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help clean up the Owl's Nest. There was a great turnout and many hands made short work of many tasks that quickly got the Owl's Nest in great shape for the students to play and learn outside.
- Thank you to all the volunteers who came to celebrate with us during the Volunteer Tea! And to those who were not able to join us, please know that we celebrated you as well. 🙂
- A special thank you to the staff and students who helped plan, setup, and perform during the Volunteer Tea.
- Ms. Lenz and Ms. Jackson and their wonderful presentation for kindergarten orientation welcoming next year’s youngest families.
- Parent Council for donating the loose parts from the Creative ReUse project for our own Altadore Loose Parts Library.
