Staffing Update

Mr. Mitechelson will return on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.

Ms. Brown-Wolfe is now on medical leave. We have secured a temporary retired high school teacher, Ms. Finkbeiner, for this week. Welcome, Ms. Finkbeiner.

Ms. Almadi will be on leave beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13. Ms. Agaton will be the temporary substitute teacher.

Ms. Lake will replace Ms. Agaton as the temporary teacher in G.3 from Tuesday, Oct. 13 to Friday, Nov. 27. Welcome, Ms. Lake.

Altadore School Painting

We are prepping the school for painting. The hallways, gym, kitchen and offices will be painted. Phase 1 is abatement, and Phase 2 is painting. All work will take place after 6:00 PM.

The anniversary painting in the gym will be removed. We are looking for parent volunteers to reframe the paintings, as the panels are starting to warp and need to be stabilized. Please email me if you are interested in helping complete this task.

School Council Meeting | Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026 | 6:30 – 8:00 PM

A reminder to attend the school council meeting. If you cannot attend in person, the online link is here. Childcare will be provided.

Altadore AMA School Safety Patrol: Parent and Student Survey

Altadore School is exploring a parent and student AMA School Safety Patrol program. The program is a year-long commitment, which requires at least one parent volunteer and 20 student volunteers. If you are interested in participating, please complete the survey by clicking here. The survey will remain open until Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.

One & Done Fundraiser

Remember to make your one cash donation to The Altadore School Parents Association now at the beginning of the school year (and be done with it). A suggested contribution of $200 per child helps fund programs, resources and opportunities for all grades. Donate here.

Fun Lunch

Fun Lunch is back! We will once again use the Healthy Hunger system. Please create an account or log in to your existing account and register your students in their correct class for the 2026/27 school year. You will find your student's teacher under the appropriate lunch time. If the teacher is not listed, please confirm you selected the correct group.

Lunch times are now organized as follows:

  • Lunch Time 1: Grades 2, 3 and 5, plus Seeds of Spice
  • Lunch Time 2: Grades 1, 4 and 6

Important: Fun Lunch is only available to Kindergarten students registered in Seeds of Spice. Their fun lunches and snacks will be distributed during Seeds of Spice time.

Fun Lunches scheduled through the end of 2026:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 14 | Panago Pizza | Order deadline: Friday, Oct. 9
  • Wednesday, Nov. 4 | Via Cibo
  • Friday, Nov. 20 | The Saucy Bread Co. soft pretzels (fun snack)
  • Wednesday, Dec. 9 | Chick-fil-A

Questions or need help ordering? Contact altadorefunlunch@gmail.com.

Photo Retakes | Wednesday, Oct. 28

Students who missed Photo Day or require a retake can sign up here by Sunday, Oct. 25. Retakes are available for expression, poor posture or head tilt, but not for changes to clothing or hairstyles.

Good Growing: Celebrating a Successful Harvest

Each classroom has now finished their harvest in the Edible Garden, and it was one of the smoothest ones the school has ever seen. A whopping 780 pounds of fresh produce, harvested over the summer and fall, went to the Calgary Food Bank. To put the size of the harvest into perspective, the boxes of potatoes, beets, carrots, turnips, and other veggies weighed about the same as an adult male grizzly bear, a vending machine stocked with pop, or five newborn elephants.

We Need More Garden Volunteers

Both of Altadore School's beloved garden spaces, the Owl's Nest and the Edible Garden, are maintained by volunteers. Whether you've got one free hour or can make a regular commitment, come help us with weeding and other maintenance tasks (outside of school hours). To add your name to the list, please email sarah.misser.whitton@gmail.com.

Casino Volunteers Needed!

Altadore School's casino fundraiser takes place every two years and is our biggest fundraiser, supporting student enrichment programs. We need volunteers to make this happen. Your time, rather than a donation, helps raise thousands of dollars for our students! Our next casino is on Thursday, Dec. 17 and Friday, Dec. 18, 2026.

There are three shifts available each day:

  • Daytime | 11:00 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Evening | 7:00 PM – 3:45 AM
  • Late Night | 11:00 PM – 3:45 AM

We have 36 volunteer spots to fill, and no prior experience is required! The key positions (General Manager, Banker, Cashier and Count Room Supervisor) must be filled by Altadore School parents. Extended family and friends are welcome to volunteer for the remaining positions.

Please sign up for a shift that works for you. Questions? Contact our parent Casino Chair, Amanda Bruni, at altadorecasino@gmail.com. Thank you for giving your time to support the programs and opportunities that enrich our students' school experience!

Notes of Thanks

Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school:

  • Ms. Wrightson and Ms. Hradsky for providing sub relief time to G.1-5 teachers for the Early Years Assessment and G.4 & 5 screening assessments.

Items to check

  • Panago Pizza order deadline: The original said Thursday, October 9, but Oct. 9, 2026 is a Friday, so I changed it.
  • School Council Meeting: The original said Wed. Oct. 1, but Oct. 1, 2026 is a Thursday. The at-a-glance table lists Wednesday, Oct. 14, so I changed it to match. Please confirm that's correct.
  • Safety Patrol survey: It closes on Sunday, Oct. 4, the first day of this update, so you may want to drop or reword it.
  • Casino shifts: The Evening and Late Night shifts both end at 3:45 AM, so the Evening end time may be a typo.
