Dear Altadore Families,
This week, we celebrated World Read Aloud Day, during which students had the opportunity to listen to a story or two read by a different teacher. The big swap was a hit, allowing everyone to experience reading in a fresh way as they engaged with someone new. Let's keep encouraging reading, whether it's reading together as a family or exploring new stories with friends and teachers.
We had a blast during our FunFit curling experience, where our focus was on encouraging physical activity and fostering social interaction through the sport. Coach Willie guided us through all the fundamentals of curling on Monday, and from then on, everyone thoroughly enjoyed delving into this exciting sport for the remainder of the week. Perhaps a few of our students will even find themselves competing at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts one day!
We invite everyone to attend the next school council meeting on February 21 for updates on our development plan, fees, and budget. This meeting will be offered both in person and online. Please see below for more information.
Note: The next newsletter will be delayed until February 25 due to the upcoming long weekend, including Teachers Convention (Feb 15 & 16) and Family Day (Feb 19).
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Kelly Christopher Principal kdchristophe@cbe.ab.ca |

School Council Meeting
The upcoming school council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, from 6 to 8 pm. We welcome everyone to join us either in person at the learning commons/library or virtually through MS Teams. The agenda includes discussions on our school development plan, fees, and the budget, and we highly value your input. Thank you to all who plan to participate.
Rock Your Locks (Formerly Big Brave)
This year, Altadore School will again be fundraising for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation! You may remember this event from last year when it was called “The Big Brave.” This year it is called “Rock Your Locks.”
On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 20, those who wish may shave their head, cut their hair, or temporarily dye their hair. If you would like to participate in this way, but will not be available on March 20, you can still do any of the three whenever it is convenient for you. Of course, if shaving, cutting, or dying your hair isn’t for you, you can still donate. More information will be coming in future Updates about how to donate.
Lunch Supervision and School Supply Fees
The School Supply Fee and Lunch Supervision Fees are now posted in MyCBE for all students.
The Student Supply Fee is $40 for Grades 1-6 and is $20 for Kindergarten. This fee covers notebooks, looseleaf, binders, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, glue, rulers, etc. The Noon Supervision Fee is only paid for students who stay for lunch. It is $30.50 per month or $305 for the year and is used to pay for lunch supervisors.
Fees have been paid for 52% of our students. If you have not already done so, we ask that you go to MyCBE to either pay the fees or apply for a waiver. We are hoping to have a big bump up in the percentage paid over the next week.
Moving or Thinking of Moving?
As you all know, we are very, very close to capacity at Altadore School. This means that we do not accept any students who are living outside of our catchment area. If your child is currently attending Altadore and you move outside of our boundaries, your child will be able to stay until the end of June. As much as we wish they could, they will not be able to continue on at Altadore next year. It is also important to know that if you do not inform us of a move over the summer, your child could be required to change schools mid-year. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Register Now for 2024-2025! - Spread the Word!
Do you have a child who will be coming to Altadore for Kindergarten or Grade 1 next year? Do you have a friend or neighbour who wants to send their child to Altadore School next year? If they are not yet registered, it would be a good idea to do so as soon as possible. Not only is it done, it helps us in our planning for next year.
Valentine’s Day at Altadore
Many of our families have a tradition of sharing valentine’s on February 14. We ask families who chose to send valentines to ensure that there is one for each student in the class. If you would like to send along a treat or candy
along with valentines, you may do so as long as they are individually wrapped and are labeled with ingredients used. These treats will be sent home. Please do not send in any food to be shared during class time.
Teachers will be sending out more specific information about how Valentine’s Day will be celebrated in their classrooms.
Money! Money! Money!
Do you want to make a huge impact on the student’s school experience? Are you good at managing money? Consider helping the council, the school, parents, and the students by stepping up to be the council Treasurer for the 2024-25 school year! The best part is that if you want to learn more about the role and what it entails, our amazing current Treasurer who has things running incredibly smoothly is available to work with you to teach you the role, and ensure a smooth transition.
If you’re interested, or just want to learn more, please don’t hesitate reach out to Julia at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com!
