Dear Altadore Families,

Ramadan Kareem to our families who observe Ramadan this month. We hope everyone has the opportunity for reflection, growth and family time during this most special celebration.

Sharing Night (March 14)

We will be hosting our second Sharing Night of the year on Thursday, March 14. Sharing Night is an opportunity for students to bring their families to school to show them some of the daily work they do in class. As a parent/caregiver, you will have the opportunity to learn about what your child does at school, what their work looks like, and what they are learning about.

In order to reduce crowding, we are asking families with surnames from A-K to come from 5:00- 6:00 pm, and families with surnames from L-Z to

come from 6:00-7:00 pm. These are suggested times only- we understand that many of you will be working around other commitments. Kindergarten is following a different schedule - you should already have information from Ms. Wrightson and Mrs. Jackson.

Conferences (March 21 & 22)

We will have Conferences on Thursday, March 21 from 4:00- 8:00 pm and on Friday, March 22 from 8:00 am- 12:00 noon. The Thursday conferences will be in person and the Friday conferences will be virtual via MS Teams.

You will be sent a link about an hour before your conference.

Ms. Wrightson will have additional Kindergarten conferences on Wednesday morning. We hope that as many kindergarten families as possible book this alternative Wednesday morning time. Booking will open at noon on Sunday, March 17 through your MyCBE account.

As always, if you have any questions or if we can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Kelly Christopher                                 Karlee Zelmer

Rock Your Locks (March 20)

Join the Rock Your Locks fundraiser where you can shave, cut, or colour your hair to help raise money for Kids Cancer Care, an organization that gives kids opportunities to have fun at special events that they may not be able to do. You can also donate your hair for wigs that will go to children who have lost their hair while dealing with cancer. We will be having this event on March 20th at 2pm so it would probably be a good idea to ask your children if they would like to help raise money (hint hint). If you want to donate to this cause, you can do so by clicking HERE! So far we have raised over $15,000. We are looking good for our goal of

$20,000 but will be challenged to come close to the record we set last year of $60,000.

The grade five team will be busy making delicious treats to support our Rock Your Locks fundraiser. On Wednesday, March 11, send your kiddo to school with a couple bucks so they can purchase a treat, or two, for a good cause. Ingredients will be listed for any kiddos with allergies. Don’t miss out on this chance of a lifetime!

Volunteers Needed!

An integral part of the school council needs help! We are searching for a new Treasurer for the 2024-25 school year, and we are hoping to find one right away so that the amazing current Treasurer can teach them the role, and ensure a smooth transition.

If you or someone you know might be interested, or just want to learn more about what the role entails, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Julia at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com

We need a truck!

Or any vehicle that could help us haul the Christmas Trees that were on display at the front entrance to the dump. If you’re able, or know someone who is, we would really appreciate it! Just email us HERE to let us know.

Grade 6 Farewell Celebration

Attention Grade 6 Parents:

Grade 6 Farewell Celebration Committee

Can you believe Grade 6s will be finishing their time at Altadore School in 4 months? Help us begin to plan a celebration for our amazing Grade 6 students and parents that will take place in June. If you would like to join this committee please contact Dayna Jansen HERE - daynajansen@hotmail.com.

Swimming for All Students (May & June)

All of our students will be offered the opportunity to go to the Glenmore Aquatic Centre for swimming lessons. Grades 3-6 will be swimming each day from Monday May 27 to Friday, May 31. Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be swimming each day from June 3-7. Afternoon Kindergarten will swim on June 9 rather than June 7 as they have no school that day.

We know we will need lots of parent volunteers to help during this time, especially in the change rooms before and after the lessons. It does not take long, and you can even meet us at the pool if you like. Please check your calendars to see if you can make a bit of time for us. We are mentioning this now so that anyone who needs a police clearance has lots of time to complete it!

If you are able to volunteer, please let your classroom teacher know.

Parent Feedback Engagement Survey

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees.

  • We shared information about these items at our School Council meeting on February 21. You can find the presentation slides here.
  • Please click here to complete the survey.
  • The survey is open from February 21 to March 22, 2024

Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.

Notes of Thanks

Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…

  • All of the volunteers who joined the Grade 1 field trip to Heritage Park this past week!

Everyone who has signed up or contributed to the Rock your Locks fundraiser. You are helping us build momentum!
