Dear Altadore Families

Did you know we are a BB4CK School?  This stands for Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids.  Volunteers make and deliver free lunches for children whose families may need some support with sending lunches to school for their children.  These snacks and lunches include a variety of sandwiches, fruits and vegetables, as well as snacks such as granola bars or yogurt tubes.

There are a number of other things that the School Council and Altadore School do to help our families who are experiencing financial stress.  The cost of Healthy Hunger Fun lunches, field trips and any special activities can be covered.  School Council also provides some gift bags at Christmas and gift cards a couple of times a year. We can also provide backpacks with some school supplies that can be used at home.

It is our goal to make things a little bit easier for families who could use an extra hand.  If you could use some help please let one of us know.  We will not ask a lot of questions or get you to fill out a bunch of paperwork.  We promise to maintain confidentiality -even from your children and their teachers.

Sincerely,

Kelly Christopher                                Karlee Zelmer

Rock Your Locks

This year at Altadore School, we will be having a fundraiser called Rock your Locks. It is where you can shave, cut, or colour your hair to help raise money for Kids Cancer Care, an organization that gives kids opportunities to have fun at special events that they may not be able to do. You can also donate your hair for wigs that will go to children who have lost their hair while dealing with cancer. We will be having this event on March 20 (check) so it would probably be a good idea to ask your children if they would like to help raise money (hint hint). If you want to donate to this cause, you can do so by clicking HERE

So far we have raised $8,439.00, we’ve set a goal of $20,000, so keep fundraising!!

Ozobot Club

We have recently purchased some Ozobot Robots in support of our new science curriculum. These cool little robots integrate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), helping to make these subjects extra engaging. Depending on how they are used, they can foster critical thinking and collaboration.  They can be coded both through drawing lines and using block code. Ms. Zelmer and Ms. Howard will be starting a Ozobot club for Grades 1-3 that will run on Thursdays at Lunch during the month of April. Depending on the amount of interested students we will create a rotating schedule to ensure everyone who is interested can participate for at least a session.

Swimming for All Students K-6 in May & June

All of our students will be offered the opportunity to go to the Glenmore Aquatic Centre for swimming lessons.  Grades 3-6 will be swimming each day from Monday May 27 to Friday, May 31.  Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be swimming each day from June 3-7.  Afternoon Kindergarten will swim on June 9 rather than June 7 as they have no school that day.

We know we will need lots of parent volunteers to help during this time, especially in the change rooms before and after the lessons.  It does not take long, and you can even meet us at the pool if you like.  Please check your calendars to see if you can make a bit of time for us.  We are mentioning this now so that anyone who needs a police clearance has lots of time to complete it!

If you are able to volunteer, please let your classroom teacher know.

Volunteers Needed!

  • We are looking for a volunteer with a vehicle who could take the Christmas Trees from the front door to the landfill. If you’re able to help out, please reach out to the garden committee HERE!
  • School council is looking for a new Treasurer for the 2024-25 school year! If you want to learn more about the role and what it entails, our amazing current Treasurer who has things running incredibly smoothly is available to work with you to teach you the role, and ensure a smooth transition.

If you’re interested, or just want to learn more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Julia at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com!

Lunch Supervision and School Supply Fees

The School Supply Fee and Lunch Supervision Fees are now posted in MyCBE for all students. The Student Supply Fee is $40 for Grades 1-6 and is $20 for Kindergarten.  This fee covers notebooks, looseleaf, binders, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, glue, rulers, etc. The Noon Supervision Fee is only paid for students who stay for lunch.  It is $30.50 per month or $305 for the year and is used to pay for lunch supervisors.

If you have not already done so, we ask that you go to MyCBE to either pay the fees or apply for a waiver. 🙂

Parent Feedback Engagement Survey

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees.

  • We shared information about these items at our School Council meeting on February 21. You can find the presentation slides here.
  • Please click here to complete the survey.
