Dear Altadore Families,

As you have likely heard from your child’s teacher, we are just about ready to start swimming lessons at Glenmore Aquatic Centre! These swimming lessons are connected to our physical education and wellness curriculum. Swimming lessons are not just about learning a skill; they play a crucial role in promoting water safety, physical fitness, and overall confidence in our students.

In our surveys, parents have overwhelmingly supported swimming lessons through the school, and find they are well worth the cost. We want to make sure the $30 cost does not cause any stress for families. If it does, please let Karlee know at kmzelmer@cbe.ab.ca and we are happy to make alternate arrangements.

Please make sure to sign and return the consent forms and make your payment on MyCBE or contact Karlee as soon as possible so that your child is able to join in this important program.

Here is our swimming schedule for your convenience:

Grade 3: 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM

To make our swimming lessons a success, we need your support. We are especially calling on dads (or other male volunteers) to step up and join us. We need at least one male volunteer to supervise in the boys' change room for every group. If you have your CBE security clearance and are able to help not only in your own child’s swim time but are willing to join in with other classes please let us know

We really appreciate the help in making these lessons possible!

Sincerely,

Kelly Christopher, Principal & Karlee Zelmer, Assistant Principal

Saa’kokoto

Visit We were happy to have Elder Saa’kokoto join us this past Thursday to share some Indigenous teachings and stories with us. As these are told as part of an oral tradition please ask your child to share with you what they remember about seasonal change or the stories he told them. We are always grateful for the wisdom he is able to impart us and for his seasonal visits!

Altadore Garden

Last week in the garden, students worked with our new garden student, who taught the children about all the nutrients that our crops need to be successful. They then prepped their class garden beds by adding amendments to the soil.

This week is exciting because students will get to sow the seeds in each class’ garden bed! It looks like it will be a little cooler, so please make sure your child is dressed for the weather on their garden day.

School Council Needs a Vice Chair!

We’re looking for a vice chair! This role can sound big, but it's actually super manageable. The role requires you to attend meetings, support the chair in any odd tasks that may come up throughout the year, and help organize a few teacher appreciation dinners. If you want to get your feet wet, and aren’t sure how, this is the perfect role! Email us now if you want to learn more! altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com

Altadore Gear

It looks like tee and sweatshirt weather next week… Why not do it with some school spirit?

Tees starting at $15! Check out the site! (Please note that this is not a fundraiser, but a fun way for everyone to feel a part of the Altadore community. The school does not profit from the purchase of these items.)

Notes of Thanks

Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…

  • Thank you to all of the volunteers who handed out lunches for the fun lunch last Wednesday, and all of the volunteers who helped out throughout the year! Fun Lunch is a favourite program for the kids, and it wouldn’t have happened without your support!
  • Thank You to everyone who came to our Parent Appreciation Tea, we hope you enjoyed yourselves and felt the appreciation from our entire school for all that you do!
  • Thank you to all of the parents who were not able to make it to the Parent Appreciation Tea, but have worked to make their child’s school experience a special one this year! Thank you again for all that you do, and know we greatly appreciate it!
  • Thank you to Ms BrownWolfe, Mr. Fraser, Ms Jackson and Ms. Vejprava for all their hard work in putting together the amazing Parent Appreciation Tea.
