Dear Altadore Families
This year we have been trying to take a more holistic approach to teaching and learning in order to increase engagement in learning- spirit, heart, body and mind.
- Engaging our spirits means incorporating who we are into our learning; finding ways to add student interests and flair. To support this we have purchased a variety of books that act as mirrors and reflect the cultures of our students and as windows into new and different ways of being.
- Learning with our heart means working together and learning from each other. Altadore school works hard to create a community of belonging where everyone is welcomed and cared for.
- Learning with our bodies means learning in a physical way, embodying concepts through movement, learning from the land or using materials as thinking tools or to represent understanding. In this regard, we have created a loose parts cart full of materials that students can use.
- Seeking learning and engaging our minds takes hard work and deep thinking. The whole school is using thinking routines from Harvard’s Project Zero to encourage a deeper level of thinking and understanding.
We know that engagement is a partnership between teachers and students. To support your child in this work you might want to discuss the following questions with them: How can you communicate your interests, ideas, preferences and needs in learning?, How can you seek learning from others?, How can you learn actively? How can you take effort, think deeply and make connections in your learning?
Sincerely,
Kelly Christopher Karlee Zelmer

School Council needs a Vice Chair!
We’re looking for a vice chair! This role can sound big, but it's actually super manageable and one of the best roles to learn about school council! The role requires you to attend meetings, support the chair in any odd tasks that may come up throughout the year, and help organize a few teacher appreciation dinners. If you want to get your feet wet, and aren’t sure how, this is the perfect role! Email us now if you want to learn more! altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com
Altadore Gear
Celebrate Altadore with custom tees starting at $15! Check out the site HERE!
(Please note that this is not a fundraiser, but a fun way for everyone to feel a part of the Altadore community. The school does not profit from the purchase of these items.)
Notes of Thanks
Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…
- A big thank you to all the parent volunteers who went to Bar- U Ranch with Grade 4 and to the Zoo with grade 1! We really appreciate your support in making these trips possible.
- Thanks to the treasurer committee of the School Council for their hard work in putting together next year’s budget and supporting our school!
