Admin Message:

Oki Hello Altadore Parents,

“The times are urgent. Let us slow down.” Bayo Akomalfe (Nigerian scholar)

As we begin again, please know it is our intention to focus on taking the time to:

  • Reconnect: We are beginning with relationships and the re-establishment of routines and trust.
  • Reassure: We acknowledge the complexity of the moment and have full confidence in staff expertise, their professionalism, and their commitment to students as they continue to create safe, caring, and engaging learning environments.
  • Refocus: We are intentionally focusing on what students most need to understand. This includes assessing where they are, reorienting as needed, and meeting them where they are. Our emphasis is on core learning outcomes rather than rushing to cover content.

For example, Ms. Andrew's grade 3 class focused on getting back into school routines, descriptive writing in literacy and the introduction of a new algebra

At this time, we would like to let you know that IPP (Individualized Program Plan) sharing has been rescheduled to Friday, November 28, 2025. If your child is on an IPP your child’s teacher will share it with you by that day.

We want to take this moment to acknowledge and thank the Altadore Support Staff for their care and attention to our school while the teachers and students were away. Hand to heart in gratitude.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Take care,

Iikiinayookaa M. Yellow Horn | Principal

Karlee Zelmer | Assistant Principal

IPP (Individualized Program Plan) Date Change

The IPP (Individualized Program Plan) has been changed to Friday, November 28, 2025. Please expect your child’s teacher to share the IPP with you by this day.

Retake Day - Monday, Nov. 25, 2025

Picture retakes will take place in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please ensure your child knows they will be having their photo taken and is dressed appropriately for retake day.

Afternoon Kindergarten students should arrive in the morning with their caregivers for their photo and then return for their regular afternoon start time at 12:26 p.m. If your child attends the Seeds of Spice program, please let them know that their picture will be retaken.

If you have any questions, please contact the school and speak with Ms. Tori.

One and Done - Let’s Reach Our Goal!

Thank you to every family who has donated to our One & Done direct donation fundraiser… you’ve given $25,000 so far! To reach our $40,000 goal, we’re aiming to raise the final $15,000 before the end of November.

Give today and help fund the residencies, field trips, and special experiences that make Altadore such a fun and enriching place to learn. If we don’t reach our goal, a few of those special opportunities may not happen this year.

We’re suggesting a contribution of $200 per student, but every amount helps. You can also give monthly or check if your employer offers donation matching to make your gift go even further.

School Council Meeting (Nov 19, 6:30 pm)

Please join us for our School Council Meeting on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 pm. All parents and guardians of Altadore students are welcome! An online option is available for those unable to attend in person via MS Teams (another Teams Meeting invite will be shared the day of). Childcare will be available for all school-aged children!

Fun Lunch (Nov 21 - Order Deadline Nov 14)

Fun Lunch will take place on Wednesday, November 5. October 31 was the last possible date for this fun lunch. Our next scheduled Fun Lunch will be our first Fun "Snack"! On Friday, November 21, the Saucy Bread Co. will be bringing in soft pretzels for this trial run, which can be ordered through the Healthy Hunger system (www.healthyhunger.ca). If you have not yet created an account, you will need to register your student in their correct class for the 2025/26 school year. The deadline to order is Friday, November 14!

Please note that the lunch times are no longer organized by division and instead by:

  • Lunch Time 1 (Grades 1, 3 and 5 and Seeds of Spice)
  • Lunch Time 2 (Grades 2, 4 and 6)

You will be able to locate your student’s teacher under the correct lunch time group.

Volunteering - Since this is our first Fun Snack, and it’s being considered a trial run, we are asking for lots of extra hands on deck. The whole school will receive its snack at the same time, so there is only one volunteer window. Please sign up here if you’re able to help.

If you have any questions or need help with ordering, please contact altadorefunlunch@gmail.com.

Save the Date - The Hoot Returns March 6,2026!

We’re thrilled to announce that The Hoot is back this spring! Mark your calendars for Friday, March 6, 2026, at the MLCA Hall. This much‑anticipated, adults‑only evening happens once every two years and is all about bringing our community together for a fun night out. Parents can connect, enjoy a lively silent auction, and celebrate the incredible artwork created by Altadore’s talented students—each family will have the chance to purchase their child’s masterpiece.

While The Hoot is typically held in November, this year’s event has been moved to March. To keep the excitement going, we’ll be hosting a mini online auction in November to spotlight some wonderful seasonal donations!

Do you know a local business that might like to get involved through a donation or sponsorship? We’d love to hear from them! Please connect them with the Hoot team HERE.
