November marks Hindu Heritage Month, a month-long celebration recognizing the important contributions that Hindu Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political, and cultural fabric.
Veterans Week and National Indigenous Veterans Day are opportunities to honor our veterans’ efforts and sacrifices and those who continue to serve.
Remembrance Day marks the final day of Veterans’ Week and recalls the end of the First World War in 1918.

Oki, Hello, Altadore Families
Welcome to November! We can’t believe we are here preparing for another busy month of learning, honoring, and resting. This is a reminder that Thursday, November 7, is the last day of school before Fall Break. Friday, November 8, is Maatoomsii’Pookaiks | Children First, an Indigenous professional learning day for all CBE staff. We will return from Fall Break on Thursday, November 14.
Please note that because of Fall Break, there will not be another newsletter until November 17.
Warm Regards,
Iikiinayookaa Yellow Horn Karlee Zelmer

Remembrance Day
Our Remembrance Day assembly will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 10:40 AM. From Monday, November 4 until November 7, each classroom teacher will have poppies available for donation to support our local veterans' office.
Please try to avoid dropping off/picking up your child during the assembly if possible.
Digital Citizenship Plan
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens. Students in grades 5 and 6 will also sign an admirable use form as they gain greater independence and responsibility for their technology use. For more information, see our website.
Sharing Night
Sharing Night will be held on Thursday, November 21. Sharing Night is an opportunity for students to bring their parents into the school to show them some of their daily work in class. The night allows families to learn more about what their child does at school, see their work, and learn more about curricular expectations.
To reduce crowding, we are asking families with surnames A to K to come between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. and families from L to Z to come from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. These are suggested times only—we understand that many of you will work around other commitments. It should take you about 20-30 minutes in your child’s class. Ms. Wrightson, the Kindergarten teacher, will let their families know about a slightly different schedule.
Direct Donation Campaign (Nov 30)
Each year we ask parents to support our school, so that we can offer the students at Altadore something beyond the CBE curriculum. We enhance their learning with programs such as residencies, field trips, fun fit, technology updates, and more that increases engagement and really helps students connect with their learning. These programs are only offered if we can raise the funding to support them, and we need your help to do that!
Please donate by November 30, so we can use what we’ve raised to budget, and plan which programs we are able to fund for the year!
Scroll to the bottom for additional information, or simply click to donate HERE!
Tax Receipts are available, and company matching programs are a great way to make your money count even more!
And did I mention that you can click to donate HERE?
