Oki, Hello, Altadore Families,
This week brings both Diwali and Halloween on October 31. October has been a month full of rich cultural and historical observances, including German Heritage Month, Canadian Islamic History Month, Rosh Hashanah, Sisters in Spirit Day, Yom Kippur, Dussehra, Thanksgiving, Sukkot, and more.
At Altadore, we strive to create a welcoming environment where all students can celebrate their heritage, learn from one another, and build lasting memories—no matter what they celebrate. As the colder months approach, we invite our school community to join us in providing warmth and comfort to students in need. We are collecting donations of new or gently used winter jackets, snow pants, hats, gloves, scarves, and boots in various sizes.
These items will go to a partner school where many families are facing challenges in preparing for the cold weather.
How to Donate
- Drop off donations in the collection bins located at the main entrance of our school from October 29 to November 15.
- Please ensure that all items are clean and in good condition. Every donation helps a child stay warm and focused on learning, rather than worrying about the cold. Thank you for your generosity!
Warm Regards,
Iikiinayookaa Yellow Horn

Picture Retakes
October 28 AM Lifetouch will return to do photo retakes on October 28, 2024. Please ensure your child knows they will be required to retake (or let your child’s teacher know if you think they will forget) as we do not have a list.
Please note: PM kindergarten students requiring retakes are to come with their caregiver at 9 AM to get their retake done.
Digital Citizenship Plan
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens. Students in grades 5 and 6 will also be signing an admirable use form as they gain greater independence and responsibility for their technology use.
Altadore Halloween Events
We are excited to celebrate Halloween with our school community. Students are welcome to arrive at school in costumes on Thursday, Oct. 31 if they wish. A gentle reminder to parents and students that costumes should not include blood, gore, masks, or weapons. The Division 1 students will parade the school to Division 2 classes, where all students can see each other's costumes. Please note that there will be no candy allowed at school on this day. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have questions or would like your child to participate in an alternative activity instead of the parade.
