Oki Hello Ataldore Families
We are so excited to see everyone on Tuesday! Here are a few quick updates to help make a smooth start!
Staff Updates at Altadore School
- Grade 5: Ms. Swan continues to be away on leave. We are pleased to welcome Ms. Norman as the temporary Grade 5 teacher. Ms. Norman brings a wealth of expertise and a strong commitment to supporting student learning excellence.
- Grade 3: A warm welcome to Ms. Brianna Miller, who joins our Grade 3 team. While new to the CBE, Ms. Miller taught previously in Grande Prairie. She brings valuable experience, care, and dedication to her classroom and to supporting student success.
Altadore Learning Leader Team Updates
- Ms. Alison Predika is joining the Administration team as a learning leader. We are excited to welcome her expertise in early learning literacy, as well as her leadership in school development planning and implementation.
- Mr. Rob Mitchelson will also join the Administration team as a learning leader on an interim basis while Ms. Caroline Swan is on leave. Rob will lead initiatives in technology, Occupational Health & Safety, and school development planning and implementation.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Norman, Ms. Miller, Ms. Predika, and Mr. Mitchelson to their new roles at Altadore!
Important Update: Meet the Teacher Night
Due to recent calendar changes implemented by the CBE, we will not be hosting a traditional Meet the Teacher Night this year.
Instead, we invite all families to attend the Welcome Back Picnic on Thursday, September 4, 5-7 p.m., which will serve as an opportunity to connect with staff. All Altadore teachers will be present and available to meet with parents and guardians during the event. If you need to share information with your child’s teacher, please reach out to them.
Please make plans to join us at the picnic—we look forward to seeing you there!
Take care,
Iikiinayookaa M. Yellow Horn, Principal mfyellowhorn@cbe.ab.
Karlee Zelmer, Assistant Principal kmzelmer@cbe.ab.ca
Bell Time Change (2025-26 School Year)
In response to Alberta Education’s School Transportation Amendment Regulation, the CBE is expanding yellow school bus service and adjusting walk zones, effective September 1, 2025. As bell times are closely linked to transportation schedules, these changes will affect many schools, including Altadore School.
The new bell times for next year will be 8:42 AM to 3:15 PM, with early dismissal on Fridays ending at 12:45 PM. Kindergarten follows a slightly different schedule; please see the email from Ms. Jackson or Ms. Lenz.
Aligning bell times across schools enhances transportation efficiency, enabling each bus to serve multiple routes. This helps create a reliable system, ensuring students arrive at school safely, on time, and ready to learn. For more information, click here.

First Day Coffee (Sept 2 at 8:45am)
Please come join us for coffee once classes begin on the first day of school. This is an opportunity for parents to reconnect and to meet new families.
Depending on weather, this will be in Sipistou'pakaiks (Owl’s Nest Garden) or the learning commons.
Welcome Back Picnic (Sept 4)
This is a casual evening designed to build community and provide an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people and to say hello to your child’s new teacher. It will be held Thursday, Sept 4 from 5-7pm. Food trucks will be available or bring your own picnic.
Garden Committee
Call for Boxes - The Garden Committee is in need of two boxes per class for the garden harvest. If you have a larger sized box (or two) that you are willing to part with please drop them off at the front office.
Volunteer Needed - The Garden Committee is also in search of a volunteer with a truck who can take the harvest to the Food Bank. They are in search of someone to do deliveries on September 8, 11 and 12. Delivery would need to be picked up after school on those dates and taken to the Food Bank. Anyone interested can please reach out to Christiana Mueller via email or on WhatsApp.
Altadore Gear - Altadore School collaborates with Summarized Design to offer Altadore Gear in various sizes for purchase throughout the year. This is a fun initiative that many of our families enjoy. Please note that this is not a fundraiser, and Altadore School does not benefit financially from the purchase of Altadore gear. You can order online at www.myschoolzone.ca/altadore, and your purchase will arrive at the school in approximately one week.
Picture Day
Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
School Calendar
Please see our school website for our 2025-26 Calendar- here . There is a PDF calendar of the whole year that you can download and print as well- here.
Lunch/Snack
- Altadore School will not be providing single-serve utensils this year. Please ensure your child brings their own utensils in their lunch.
- We are a nut-aware school due to students with severe allergies. Please be mindful of this when packing your child’s lunch to help keep everyone safe.
- We encourage students to take home unfinished food - we do not throw food away at Altadore School, and encourage a litterless lunch to support our city’s green initiatives.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Notes of Thanks
Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…
- A special thank you to Ms. Tori for her unwavering dedication and care for our school, teachers, and students. She is truly the heart of our community, and we are so grateful for all that she does.
- Thank you to our parents for your patience and understanding regarding the recent changes to class configurations and the delay in receiving welcome emails from teachers. We truly appreciate your support and flexibility as we work to ensure the best start for all our students.
