Admin Message

Oki Hello Altadore Parents,

We had a fabulous first full week at Altadore School!

Please note that the weekly message from Altadore Admin will now be sent bi-monthly. The next message will be sent on Sunday, September 28, at 11:00 AM. Of course, emergent messages will continue to be shared throughout the week as needed.

The Terry Fox Run will take place on our playground field on Tuesday, September 16 at 9:30 AM. We will start with a short assembly and then be out on our field shortly after 9:30. Thank you to the parent volunteers who are helping on this day. If you are able, we kindly ask you to make a donation here.

A special thank you to Ms. Jane for helping keep classes organized with the Fall harvest. We had a successful harvest this year, which has provided many wonderful learning opportunities in the classroom. For example, our Grade One classes used the harvest as part of an ABCDE approach experiment—guiding them through steps such as Asking a question, Building a hypothesis, Carrying out the experiment, Data analysis, and Explaining the results. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Parent Council for providing the much-needed support to continue this work.

We are excited to welcome back Elder Saa’kokoto on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Additionally, Elder Dr. Christina Fox, an Indigenous author, will be visiting on Friday to share her books with our students. One of her books, My Suitcase, discusses residential schools in a child appropriate way. Students and staff are invited to wear their orange shirts for her visit if they like.

Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Principal Iikiinayookaa.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Take care,

Iikiinayookaa M. Yellow Horn, Principal mfyellowhorn@cbe.ab.

Karlee Zelmer, Assistant Principal kmzelmer@cbe.ab.ca

One & Done – Our Annual Fundraiser (Direct Donation Camp Campaign)

At Altadore, we keep fundraising simple. Instead of asking families to sell products or run multiple fundraisers, we do One & Done (aka the Direct Donation Campaign): one annual donation ask that directly supports programs and experiences for our kids all year long.

Your donation to the Altadore School Parents Association helps cover:

  • Field trips and off-site learning opportunities
  • In-class residencies and performances in arts, athletics, and culture
  • Enrichment resources like new library books, gym/music equipment, and cultural teachings

We suggest $200 per child, but please give what feels right for your family. You can also choose to give monthly to spread the cost across the year, and every donation comes with a tax receipt. Many employers will even match your donation, doubling the impact. A letter will be hitting your kids backpacks with more information next month. But, you don’t have to wait! Give now so we can start booking residencies and planning experiences for the year!

Garden Committee Update

Calling all gardeners! Do you have a green thumb and are looking for a way to get more involved in the school? Look no further! We are still in need of a Garden Committee Chair to work alongside the other dedicated members of the Garden Committee. This role entails collaborating and helping lead garden maintenance, programming and special events. Please note that being an expert gardener is not a requirement for this role!

School Calendar

Please see our school website for our 2025-26 Calendar- here . There is a PDF calendar of the whole year that you can download and print as well- here.

Lunch/Snack

  • Altadore School will not be providing single-serve utensils this year. Please ensure your child brings their own utensils in their lunch.
  • We are a nut-aware school due to students with severe allergies. Please be mindful of this when packing your child’s lunch to help keep everyone safe.
  • We encourage students to take home unfinished food. We do not throw food away at Altadore School and promote a litterless lunch to support our city’s green initiatives.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
