Dear Altadore Families,

School Development Plan: This year, based on data collected by staff, students and parents, our staff decided to focus on student engagement. The view of engagement we are building is one of a partnership between students and teachers. Teachers share responsibility for engagement with students by providing necessary support and opportunities for students to become more actively engaged by designing holistic tasks to help engage the spirit, heart, body and mind. Students are seen as active partners who are responsible to develop skills to engage in and drive their learning forward. To this end we have created an Altadore Continuum of Engagement which promotes a common language throughout the school. More information will be coming from your child’s teacher.

Fun Fit: Our Kindergarten to Grade 3 students have been enjoying learning how to inline skate with Alien Inline this week (and next). We have noticed how some students are persevering through challenges and others are lending support to their classmates. What a great way to show care and inclusion. Thanks to our parent council for providing this opportunity. Watch for information coming to you on Tuesday about the next Fun Fit for our grade 4 to 6 students who will be going to Winsport to ski or snowboard on January 17 & 18!

Sincerely,

Kelly Christopher

2023-24 Direct Donation Campaign

The final countdown has begun!

We're short $4000 to hit our target, so we need all hands on deck to make sure we can keep our programs up and running this year! The campaign ends THIS SUNDAY December 10. If you can give any amount, no matter how big or small, we would be thrilled! Let's hit this goal together!

Did you know… your child has already started enjoying the perks of our direct donation campaign? In-line skating was covered by the campaign! The downhill skiing/snowboarding the Grade 4-6 students will be doing in January is worth about $100 per student and will be covered by the campaign. $40 of the cost of Outdoor School for Grade 6 students - covered by the campaign. Most field trips they went on/are about to go on - partially or wholly funded by this campaign! The music equipment they’re using to prep for their concert at the end of the month - paid for by the campaign! Or, ask your child how many times they’ve been out to the Owl’s Nest garden in front of the school, to be inspired by nature in their writing, or artwork! The costs of keeping that garden, and the vegetable garden are also covered by your friendly neighbourhood Direct Donation Campaign!

This campaign provides SO much to our students. Please consider donating HERE!

PS. We provide tax receipts!!!

Fun Lunch

Fun Lunch is this Wednesday, December 6!

Panago will be delivered to everyone who ordered, but don’t forget to pack your child with any additional snacks or drinks to supplement their meal!

Christmas Concert

Students are practicing hard for our Christmas concerts. The students are so excited (and a little nervous) to be performing for you. All concerts will be held at 1:45pm and 6:00pm each day.

  • Monday, December 18 - Grades 4-6
  • Tuesday, December 19 - Kindergarten - Grade 1
  • Wednesday, December 20 - Grades 2-3

Children’s Book Drive for the Holidays

School Council is collecting new and gently-used books (appropriate for kids in elementary school) to be gifted to children who could use a little extra this holiday season. If you have any gently-used books at home that you no longer need, or if you are able to pick up a new book during your holiday shopping, please drop them off in the BOOK DRIVE holiday box at the office. You can also send donated books to school with your child. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Battle of the Breakfast Cereals for the Calgary Food Bank

We are very excited to kick off our second annual Battle of the Breakfast Cereals. Students will compete to see which grade can collect the most boxes of breakfast cereal to donate to the Calgary Food Bank. This food drive will culminate in a cereal box domino run on Friday, December 15. Last year we gathered over 600 boxes and emptied the shelves at the local Safeway.

You are also welcome to donate cash to the Calgary Food Bank by sending or bringing it to the school. A link for online donations will also be set up next week.

Holiday Treats for Teachers

We are on the hunt for some generous volunteers to drop festive treats off for our beloved teachers on Thursday, December 21.

Let’s show them how much we appreciate them with some yummy cookies, muffins, chocolate and all things delicious! Sign up HERE to deliver one dozen of something tasty.

We are also in need of some drinks like sparkling water!

Altadore Gear - Holiday Gift Ideas

Altadore has some serious DRIP going on right now!

Don’t worry, I googled it. DRIP is slang for “cool and fashionable style”, so obviously our amazing Altadore Gear falls in this category! Make sure your kids get some serious drip this holiday season, and even think about being the coolest parent at drop off in your very own drippy hoodie!

Order online HERE

Pop into the office to check out colours and sizes! Please note that this is not a fundraiser, and Altadore does not benefit financially.

Notes of Thanks

Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…

  • Lisa Kujath for starting up and managing the incredible Instagram account for our families this year! It's been very helpful with reminders for parents, and keeping everyone in touch with things happening around the school!
  • All of the parents who have been coming in to tie skates and help our little ones with inline skating.
