Weekly Update Feb. 27 - Mar. 3 | Sharing Night, Conferences, Survey, Fees, Fun Lunch, Staff Appreciation Dinner, School Council

Dear Altadore Families,

Sharing Night

We will be hosting our second Sharing Night of the year on Thursday, March 2. Sharing Night is an opportunity for students to bring their parents to the school to show them some of the daily work they do in class. As a parent, you will have the opportunity to learn more about what your child does at school, what their work looks like, and what they are learning about.

In order to reduce crowding, we are asking families with surnames from A-K to come from 5:00-6:00pm, and families with surnames from L-Z to come from 6:00-7:00pm. These are suggested times only - we understand that many of you will be working around other commitments.

Conferences

Conferences are on Thursday, March 9 (in person) and Friday, March 10 (online).

We will have on Conferences on Thursday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on Friday from 8:00am until noon. The Thursday conferences will be in-person and the Friday conferences will be virtual. Ms Wrightson will have additional Kindergarten conferences on Thursday morning. There is no school for students on the Friday. Books will start at noon on Sunday, February 5th. You can book through your MyCBE account.

Assurance Survey

All parents with students in Grade 4 should have received a package from the Alberta government with information about the Assurance Survey. This survey focuses on gathering feedback from students, teachers, and parents about their perception of the quality of education provided by their school. Altadore students and teachers have already filled out their portions.

If you received a package and have not yet filled out your survey, please do. The data you give us is used to help guide our writing of Altadore’s school development plan. Make your voice heard!

You can find the survey at https://public.education.alberta.ca/APOS/. You will need the random access code from your package to access the survey. If you run into any difficulties, please contact the school.

As always if you have any questions or we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Have You Paid Your School Fees?

About 30% of our families have paid their school fees for this school year. These fees include a School Supply Fee of $40 for students in Grades 1-6 or $20 for kindergarten students as well as a Noon Supervision Fee for students who stay at lunch of $285. The CBE will be sending out reminders soon, but we thought parents might appreciate hearing from us first. To pay fees or to request a waiver, go to MyCBE.

Fun Lunch

Tuesday March 7 is the next Fun Lunch: Booster Juice. Don't forget to place your order here at Healthy Hunger before the deadline on Thursday. If you have questions, please reach out to the Fun Lunch Team HERE.

Join in and Volunteer

Altadore School Council is starting to prepare for next year, and we have a lot of volunteer opportunities with varying commitments looking for someone to help out! If you think you might be able to step up and be a part of what makes the Altadore School Council, and our school community so great, take a look at all of the committees looking for help below.

School Council

Are you looking to get more involved in the school community? Join School Council for the 2023-2024 school year! We are looking for a new School Council Vice Chair, FunFit Coordinator, Hoot Committee Chair and many things in between. Please reach out to Julie Lowry at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com if you’re interested in finding out more!

Altadore Garden Committee

Almost time for the garden season! We need new committee members to fill roles of Chair, Treasurer, and Garden Manager Coordinator. These roles will all have support available from current and previous committee members. And we are happy to announce Sage Nessler will be returning as our Garden Manager this season! If you are interested in joining the committee (first dibs on garden beds or would like to inquire about having a garden bed for your family, please contact us! altadoregarden@gmail.com

The Hoot!

In November 2023 we will be hosting another HOOT! We are starting to build a committee to help plan this awesome Altadore School event.

For those of you who are new to Altadore School, The HOOT is a social night just for parents. We gather on a Friday night to connect, drink wine, eat delicious food, bid on silent auction items, live auction items, raffle, and student art!. It is SUCH a fun event for us to enjoy all together!

There is a strong event foundation thanks to the many past HOOT committees but we need new committee members to help execute this event. Volunteering in this capacity might be new for you but trust me, it is so fun to help plan! You will meet a ton of great people and help with one of the major fundraising events for Altadore school. If you have not completed a CBE Police Information Check, (for example, you cannot apply to one because you are too new to Canada), you are still able to volunteer for this committee. If you are interested in finding out what you can help with please email Julie Lowry at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com

Grade 6 Farewell Committee

Do you have a child in Grade 6 at Altadore School this year? If you would like to help out with planning a Grade 6 farewell celebration, please contact Lesley Sinclair.

Notes of Thanks

Thank you to the following individuals for their recent contributions to our school…

  • Thank you to everyone who brought in Valentines Day treats for the staff, it was very much appreciated!
  • Chris Fernyk, who brought over his snowblower and helped clear some sidewalks and pathways at the school after the big storm last weekend. It sure did help make it easier to get around the schoolyard until the CBE staff could come!
  • Ms. Mackenzie and the Pride Vibes Club who organized some fun activities for Pink Shirt Day - and to all the students and staff who participated!
