Dear Altadore Families,

We are thankful for all the wonderful students, families and staff that make up our Altadore School community. This vibrant and supportive community is a huge part of what makes Altadore School so special. Regardless of what Thanksgiving traditions you have, or not, we hope you have a bit of time to relax and reflect on what brings you joy.

We hope to be able to see you at our upcoming School Council meeting on Wednesday at 6:30. We are looking forward to sharing the results from the parent and student surveys that were conducted in the Spring. This information will be sent out in the Update next week. That being said, you are always able to get a bit more information and nuance if you are able to attend the meeting in person. Active participation and your input at these meetings are invaluable in shaping the future of Altadore School. See below for more information.

We hope you are having a wonderful long weekend and are able to spend some time with loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who celebrate!

School Council Meeting                                                                       

Join us on October 11 at 6:30pm at the school, for our School Council meeting! All parents and guardians are welcome, and encouraged to join! This month our Grade 6 teachers will be presenting, and we will get updates from many groups including administration updates on our Spring 2023 parent survey, updates from the Edible Garden Committee, HOOT planning, and monthly budget reports. If you have any questions about the meeting, or would like more information, please feel free to email Julia at altadoreparentcouncil@gmail.com. Babysitting is available.

Halloween

It is the beginning of October which means many families are starting to plan for Halloween and are wondering how it will work at school.

Children are invited to wear costumes if they wish. Those who do choose to wear costumes should wear them to school at the beginning of the day. Please give some thought to what is practical and appropriate to wear at school. For example, masks should allow for clear vision and not be so gory they are truly scary.

Classes will be doing a variety of Halloween/Fall activities throughout the day - teachers will fill you in more about that. You may send a special snack for your child to eat in the afternoon. If you send treats for other children, please ensure that an ingredient list is included. These treats will be sent home for later.

Sponsorship and Silent Auction

Our silent auction requires some amazing items, and we're running out of time! We're hoping you can lend a hand and make this event a success! Your support can make all the difference, let's rally together and make this auction one to remember. We are especially fond of sponsorships, so if you know someone who may be interested, please reach out to us by email HERE!

If your child does not want to dress up or your family does not celebrate Halloween, that is perfectly fine as well. Our goal is to recognize this day as a special occasion for many of our families, while being inclusive of all.

HOOT Volunteers

The HOOT is an incredible event because our community steps up to help run things on the night of the event! We have lots of fun volunteer shifts for the day of, and they’re the best way to get to know other parents at the school! Please note that all volunteers must have a purchased ticket to attend the event. Sign up HERE!

2023-24 Direct Donation Campaign

Altadore’s direct donation campaign officially starts next week! Look out for materials to be sent home with the eldest child in your family, or get a head start and donate now by clicking HERE! Our goal is to get 75% of families to participate, no matter the amount.

Garden Committee 

Lend a helping hand, or better yet, bring your whole family and join us next Saturday, October 14 from 10am-2pm to help clean up and prep the gardens and Owl’s nest for the upcoming season. If you have your own gardening gloves, or any wheelbarrow’s handy, please bring them along (but not necessary). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to all of the students, staff and volunteers on an amazing harvest season this Fall. Katie Dodd, Emma Geoghegan lead the team, and the school donated an incredible 1165lbs of produce to the food bank!

Setting Up Your Account

Families can start setting up their orders through the Healthy Hunger website HERE. You will have to create a profile and select their teacher by selecting Altadore School. Please note that there are two accounts for Fun lunch for Altadore School. AltadoreLunch1 is grades 1-3 (with seeds of spice) and AltadoreLunch2 is grades 4-6. You can email the fun lunch team HERE with any questions or concerns!

Because it is a private account, you will need to search for it on instagram under Altadore_School_Parent, and request permission to access the account. That way you can follow along with updates on events, news, volunteer call outs, spirit day reminders, and much much more!

Altadore Gear - All Year Long

Altadore school works with Summarized Design to provide Altadore Gear for purchase in all sizes all year long. This is a fun initiative that many of our families enjoy. Please note that this is not a fundraiser, and Altadore School does not benefit financially from the purchase of Altadore gear. T-Shirt and hoodie colours are changed periodically, and right now there are several different versions of multicoloured logos! You can order online and your purchase will come to the school in about a week. If you would like to see the different colour options or to have you child try on t-shirts to check for size, there are samples at the school office.
